Walled Gardens

The Walled Gardens

Surrounded by original Victorian walls, you’ll discover the Ornamental Kitchen Garden and South Gardens.

The Kitchen Garden contains an abundance of organic, seasonal fruits and vegetables (including heritage varieties), as well as stunning cut flower beds.

In the Southern Gardens island pavilions float majestically, surrounded by pleached limes, tranquil water features and a variety of ‘garden rooms’ each with its own unique features.

Striking Symmetry

Our Island Pavilions look beautiful throughout the seasons with benches around their centres which you can reach over their wooden bridges.

The Dutch Garden, with its 26m canal, box parterres and striking symmetrical design, is often noted as a visitor favourite. It’s particularly beautiful come midsummer when the agapanthus are in bloom. This year we also have gaura lindheimeri along the outer pots bringing some pops of white.

Room To Roam

Explore the expansive South Lawns and immerse yourself in the stunning natural surroundings, gazing out at a panoramic view that hasn’t changed in centuries, all set to the backdrop of the stunning Herefordshire countryside. From here, you’ll find the gateway to our tranquil longer walks either along the meadows or to the lake, a chance to further discover the estate’s natural beauty (well-behaved dogs on leads are warmly welcomed).

The Sunken Gardens

Wander down a path of cascading stepping stones to reach this oasis of calm. Here, huge gunnera, lush greenery, and a stunning waterfall create a captivating scene. This area of the garden attracts plentiful wildlife, and the gentle babble of running water is truly blissful, particularly on a warm day.
