About Us
The Estate
Hampton Gardens is set within the historic Hampton Court Estate in North Herefordshire. With a legacy stretching back 600 years, the landscape has a rich history shaped by generations of fascinating families.
Today, we share the wider grounds with Hampton Castle, which operates separately as a private venue. While the building itself is closed to day visitors, its striking crenellated architecture provides a magnificent backdrop to the gardens. For a particularly beautiful view of the historic building, we recommend following the trails to the far end of the Lake Walk.
The Gardens
Cared for by a small team of committed gardeners under the guidance of Head Gardener John Wood, Hampton Gardens is a landscape of both formal beauty and playful discovery. The gardens were extensively reimagined 25 years ago by the Van Kampen family, who worked with designers Simon Dorrell and David Wheeler to capture the centuries-old spirit of the estate.
Today, their vision thrives. Elegant avenues, water canals, and island pavilions seamlessly blend with the estate’s established planting. But beyond the formal borders lies the unexpected: a 1,000-tree yew maze, a towering gothic folly, and a secret tunnel waiting to be explored.
